  • ART EXHIBITION
MES is an artist duo formed in 2015 at Tokyo University of the Arts, with Takeru Arai, who has a background in sculpture and spatial art, and Kanae Tanikawa, who has roots in literature and theater, planning and producing works independently.

Mixing technologies such as lasers and thermography with plastic materials such as candles, phosphorescent materials, and text, he creates works that use his own body as a starting point to highlight the periphery of a landscape framed by words and images drawn from the place and times. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, he has presented installations such as DISTANCE OF RESISTANCE (2020/2021), which projects laser animation onto the National Diet Building; SA-I (2021), which depicts the distance between others and society under the Olympics through the movement of heat and breathing; and Salvage Club (2024), which explores the liberation and rejection between humans and pigs through a collaboration with a pig farm run in ruins. He also works on performance pieces such as WAX PL/RA/EY (2024).
