Founded in 2006 by dancers Masaru Kakio and Yuya Tsukahara, the group has gradually changed members and is currently comprised of four members: Yuya Tsukahara, Keigo Migajiri, Takuya Matsumi, and NAZE. The group's name is also the name of the methodology they practice. They have developed a unique theory of the pastoral sublime by focusing on human contact and physical collisions, and have been active in dance festivals and museum exhibitions both in Japan and abroad, producing installations, photography and video works, and editing booklets, as well as performing improvisational performances reminiscent of martial arts and sports.

His major exhibitions include contact Gonzo+YCAM Bio Research "wow, see you in the next life. / Reflections on the past, future, and uncertain information" (Yamaguchi Center for Arts and Media, 2019), "Reborn-Art Festival 2017" (Miyagi, 2017), "Kazeana: Another Conceptualism from Asia" (National Museum of Art, Osaka, 2011), and many others.

contact Gonzo is a collective from Osaka, Japan, that combines improvisational physical contact with legendary journalist Hunter S. Thompson's “gonzo” aesthetics. They work in public sites, mountains, rivers, galleries, museums, theaters and alleys around the world, with performances that may seem either a street mosh or a sophisticated dance. Besides being a company, contact Gonzo is also a name of a method they have developed by Masaru Kakio and Yuya Tsukahara starting in 2006.
Besides urban interventions, they also work on creations of installations, videos and photography and creating performance pieces for theaters and international dance festivals.
In recent years, Gonzo became the focus of increasing attention in both the performing arts and contemporary art scenes.
Currently contact Gonzo consists of five members with different back grounds, including NAZE, Takuya Matsumi, Keigo Mika jiri and Yuya Tsukahara.
Saison Foundation Fellow from 2011 - 2018.
