丹羽優太

In 2019, after completing her graduate studies in painting at Kyoto University of the Arts, she studied abroad in Beijing. She is currently based in Kyoto.
The artist creates works while drawing upon traditional Japanese painting techniques and iconographic contexts. Focusing on the history of people likening unseen calamities and irresistible forces to "something black" such as catfish, the artist depicts themes of ecstasy and the ominous presence of disaster in the modern age.
Recent major exhibitions include "Ecstasy Era / Zeiten des Rausches", the unveiling of fusuma paintings at Komyoin, a sub-temple of Tofuku-ji Temple, Biennale Jogja 18, Art Collaboration Kyoto "Golden Fight of Gods", "Chimera Chronicles", and "Yanbaru Art Festival". The artist continues to present their work across disciplines through residencies and collaborations both domestically and internationally.
