KINJO

  • ART FAIR - MEET YOUR ARTISTS
Born in Tokyo and with roots in Okinawa, KINJO continues to create paintings and sculptures that use familiar motifs found in everyday life, such as corporate logos and product packaging that symbolize American culture, as subjects.
The way the artist repeatedly "draws and erases," as if keeping a fixed point of observation to record their life, shakes up the familiar landscapes and symbols from within, while simultaneously revealing a trajectory that redraws the outline of the artist's own portrait.
The motif of his representative series, "Eyes Glowing in the Darkness," originates from KINJO's physical sensations, stemming from a childhood fear of being subjected to the gaze of others. However, his works also make visible the structure of modern society, which is divided by the binary opposition of "the one who sees" and "the one who is seen."
KINJO's collages, which combine multiple layers of materials and materials by hand, and his works featuring living creatures as motifs, are deeply connected to the life and customs of his hometown and family where he was born and raised. Starting from personal memories, KINJO's expression cuts up and remixes the multifaceted nature and dynamics of society constructed by the gaze surrounding them from various angles, and is also a practice of alternative as a community as seen by the artist.
