  • ART FAIR - MEET YOUR ARTISTS
Focusing on painting, he creates works using objects and plants around us, folk culture, and material culture as clues to explore the relationships between people and objects, as well as the sensories, memories, and time accumulated within them. In recent years, while incorporating anthropological perspectives, he has researched how plants and objects have been used and given meaning in different regions and cultures, reconstructing them into paintings by overlaying them with his own senses and experiences. Through color and form, he explores the relationships born between personal and cultural memory, everyday life and history.

Jia Wei is a visual artist working primarily in pain ting. Her practice draws on everyday objects, plants, folk traditions, and material culture to explore relationships between people and things, particularly the sensations, memories, and traces of time that accumulate around them.
Recent works incorporate anthropological perspectives and research into the ways plants and objects are used, exchanged, and given meaning across different cultures and regions. These materials are reinterpreted through sensory experience and translated into pain tings through color and form, connecting personal memory with cultural memory, and everyday life with history.
Selected for the Shell Art Award in 2019, Jia Wei received the Grand Prix at FACE in 2021 and the Student Special Prize at the Idemitsu Art Award in 2022.
