Ryu Ika is a visual artist born in Hohhot, Mongolia Autonomous Region in 1993, and is currently based in Paris and Tokyo. Through experiments combining diverse media such as photography, installation, and sound, she explores the relationship between the individual and society. In addition to her Mongolian and Chinese roots, she creates works based on over ten years of living experience in Japan, Identity, displacement, and the fluidity of belonging.
Her works often explore the relationship between 'seeing/being seen' and how recognition from others shapes an individual's self-awareness. Through experimentation with materials and spatial composition, she creates immersive installations that re-examine the boundaries between images and objects.
He has presented works both domestically and internationally, including the VOCA exhibition at the Ueno Royal Museum of Art (2022), the Asama International Photo Festival (2023), T3 Photo Festival Tokyo (2021), and KYOTOGRAPHIE KG+ (2023).
In 2019, he won the Grand Prix in the "1_W ALL" photography category, was a finalist for the 2021 Tadahiko Hayashi Award, and has collaborated with fashion brands such as LOEWE and KEN ZO. From 2024 to 2025, he has a residency at Paris's "Cité internationale des arts" and is currently enrolled at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris.

Drawing from her Mongolian and Chinese heritage, as well as over a decade of living in Japan, she focuses on themes of identity, displacement, and the fluidity of belonging.
Her work often examines the dynamics of seeing and being seen, and how recognition shapes one’s sense of self with in collective structures. Through material experimentation and spatial arrangements, she creates immersive installations that challenge the boundaries between image and object.
Ryu has presented her work internationally, including at The Ueno Royal Museum for the VOCA Exhibition (2022), as well as at Asama International Photo Festival (2023), T3 Photo Festival Tokyo (2021), and KYOTOGRAPHIE KG+ (2023).
