Ryu Ika was born in 1993 in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China, and is currently a visual artist based in Paris and Tokyo. Through experiments combining diverse media such as photography, installation, and sound, he explores the relationship between individuals and society. In addition to his Mongolian and Chinese roots, he creates works based on over ten years of living experience in Japan, focusing on Identity, displacement, and the fluidity of belonging.
Her works often explore the relationship between 'seeing/being seen,' and how recognition from others shapes an individual's self-awareness. Through experimenting with materials and spatial composition, he creates immersive installations that re-examine the boundaries between images and objects.
He has presented works both domestically and internationally, including the VOCA exhibition at the Ueno Royal Museum of Art (2022), the Asama International Photo Festival (2023), T3 Photo Festival Tokyo (2021), and KYOTOGRAPHIE KG+ (2023).
In 2019, he won the Grand Prix in the "1_W ALL" photography category, was a finalist for the 2021 Tadahiko Hayashi Award, and has collaborated with fashion brands such as LOEWE and KEN ZO. From 2024 to 2025, he will be residing at Paris's "Cité internationale des arts," He is currently enrolled at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
