Shota Yamauchi was born in Gifu Prefecture in 1992 and is based in Kanagawa Prefecture. He graduated from the Sculpture Department of Kanazawa College of Art in 2014 and completed his studies in Media Arts at the Graduate School of Film and New Media, Tokyo University of the Arts in 2016. He creates installations that combine video and sculpture, while also working across various media such as performance and scent. He explores the relationship between the self and the world, as well as the boundaries between reality and the mystical.

"In Between...Us?" was created as part of the artist fellowship activities for the Civic Creative Base Tokyo [CCBT]'s 2025 Art Incubation Program.
Civic Creative Base Tokyo [CCBT] is a hub for activities that unleash people's creativity into society through art and digital technology.
One of CCBT's core programs, "Art Incubation," aims to create expressions, explorations, and actions that will transform cities for the better by providing creators with new opportunities for creative activity and opening up the process to the public (civics). Each year, five groups of creators are selected through an open call and selection process as "CCBT Artist Fellows," who act as partners of CCBT by concretizing and presenting their projects, making their creative processes public, and conducting workshops.

Shota Yamauchi was born in Gifu, Japan, in 1992, and lives and works in Kanagawa. He received his undergraduate degree in Sculpture from Kanazawa College of Art in 2014, and completed his master's degree in Video and Media Art at the Graduate School of Film and New Media, Tokyo University of the Arts, in 2016.
His practice primarily centers on installations that combine video and three-dimensional forms, while also working across media such as performance and scent. Through his work, he explores the relationship between the self and the world, as well as the boundary between reality and the mystical.
