In 2020, inspired by a writer friend, I started Marco Gallery, which is attached to a clothing store.
Currently, it is a space that aims to foster "relationships and culture."
While serving as the representative director of the general incorporated association Ihirena,
I am conducting research in my doctoral program from the perspective of "culture x economics".
Annual theme: "Romantic beyond us (earth)"
Where does a community begin?
Relationships may begin not with sharing the same values or belonging to the same place, but with showing interest in someone you don't yet know well.
The phrase "Romantic beyond us [(earth)]" makes me imagine a scene where we encounter extraterrestrials beyond Earth. It's about trying to understand beings with completely different languages and sensibilities, even if we can't fully comprehend them. It's about trying to build a bridge between us. This imagination isn't just about the distant universe; it resonates with the relationships we build with others every day.
Outside of "us," there's always someone we don't yet know. Crossing that boundary isn't about making the other person the same as you, but about facing them while remaining different. And I find something romantic about the very desire to cross that distance.
As a co-director involved in this project, my conversations with the MEET YOUR ART team led to a broader range of ideas and encounters with artists and companies that I wouldn't have come across on my own. One encounter led to another, and I was gradually led outwards. That process itself is what I feel most strongly about this community.
I hope that the many encounters that take place here will slightly broaden each person's sense of "us" and inspire them to turn their imagination towards someone they haven't yet met.
