1984年高知県生まれ。身近にある自然や生活環境にインスピレーションを得ながら、主に保存や記録が可能な素材であるガラスを用い、自分が存在する場所で知覚した「微かな懐かしさ」のありようを探求している。
北欧やアメリカを中心に滞在制作招聘を受け、国内外の美術館で展示活動を行う。主な賞歴は、第33回Rakow Commission(2019年、コーニングガラス美術館/アメリカ)、富山ガラス大賞展2021大賞(富山市ガラス美術館)。ラトビア国立美術館(ラトビア)、金沢21世紀美術館など作品収蔵多数。近年の主な個展に「Subtle Intimacy : Here and There」（2023年、ポートランド日本庭園/アメリカ）、「雪の中の青」(2024年、アートコートギャラリー)がある。ニューヨークタイムズ紙や日本経済新聞などで作家特集掲載。現在は、石川県にて制作。
Born in 1984 in Kochi Prefecture, Japan, Rui Sasaki is inspired by nature and her everyday surroundings as she explores the “faint nostalgia” perceived in places where she exists, mainly using glass as a material that can be preserved and recorded.
She has been invited to residencies mainly in Scandinavia and the U.S., and has exhibited at museums in Japan and abroad. Major awards include the 33rd Rakow Commission (Corning Museum of Glass, USA, 2019) and her presentation for the Toyama Glass Grand Prize Exhibition 2021 (Toyama City Museum of Glass). Many of her works are part of the collections of institutions including National Art Museum of Latvia, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, and others. Recent solo exhibitions include “Subtle Intimacy : Here and There” (2023, Portland Japanese Garden, USA) and “Blue in the Snow” (2024, ARTCOURT Gallery, Osaka). The artist has been featured in The New York Times, Nihon Keizai Shimbun, and other publications. She currently works in Ishikawa, Japan.
