- ART FAIR - MEET YOUR ARTISTS
福岡を拠点に活動。「呼吸」、「お臍」、「卵」など私たちの生と密接な事象から、人間の性質に迫る作品を多く手がける。近年では「呼吸」を最も根源的に世界を変容する運動ととらえ、ワークショップやインスタレーション、パフォーマンスを国内外にて発表。コロナ禍に始まったサラ・ミリオとの共同プロジェクトや、銀座エルメスフォーラムにて内藤アガーテの作品を使用したパフォーマンスを実施するなど、さまざまな協働制も行い独自の活動を展開している。主な展覧会に「Your Body is the Shoreline」 √K Contemporary、「開館30周年記念展『日常のコレオ』」東京都現代美術館、「京都精華大学55周年記念展 FATHOM - 塩田千春、金沢寿美、ソー・ソウエン」/京都精華大学ギャラリーTerra-S など多数。2022年福岡アジア美術館アーティスト・イン・レジデンス招聘。2024年、インスタレーション作品「Bellybutton and Breathing −お臍と呼吸」が福岡市美術館に収蔵された。
2026年6月には、熊本市現代美術館にて個展を開催予定。

Based in Fukuoka, Japan, Soh Souen creates works that probe human nature through phenomena intimately bound to life itself, including breathing, the navel, and the egg. In recent years, Souen has regarded breathing as a primal movement—at once a means of resistance and a force capable of transforming the world—presenting workshops, installations, and performances both in Japan and abroad.
Souen has also developed a distinctive collaborative practice, including a joint project with Sara Milio that began during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as performances using Agathe Naito’s work at Ginza Maison Hermès Le Forum.
Major exhibitions include Your Body is the Shoreline at √K Contemporary; MOT’s 30th Anniversary Exhibition Choreographies of the Everyday at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo; and FATHOM—Shiota Chiharu, Kanazawa Sumi, Soh Souen at Kyoto Seika University Gallery Terra-S, among others. In 2022, Souen was invited to participate in the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum’s Artist in Residence program. In 2024, the installation Bellybutton and Breathing was acquired by the Fukuoka Art Museum.
A solo exhibition is planned at Contemporary Art Museum, Kumamoto in June 2026.
