1973年東京都生まれ。工業用ミシンを用い、近代化以降、変容し続ける人間性や労働の価値を問いながら、刺繍というメディアの枠を拡張させる作品を数々発表している。ロンドン・ゴールドスミスカレッジのテキスタイル学科を1998年に卒業、2001年シカゴ美術館附属美術大学で美術学修士号を取得。
近年の主な個展に、「刺繍少年フォーエバー in Kyoto」（美術館「えき」KYOTO、京都、2026）、「セカイノコトワリ―私たちの時代の美術」（京都国立近代美術館、京都、2025-26)、「開館30周年記念展 日常のコレオ」（東京都現代美術館、2025）、「Unfolding: Fabric of Our Life」（Center for Heritage Arts & Textile, 香港、2019）など国内外の展覧会に多数参加。

Born 1973 in Tokyo. BA in textiles from Goldsmiths College, University of London in 1998; MFA in fiber and material study from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2001. Lives and works in Tokyo. Employing industrial-use sewing machines, Aoyama presents numerous works which expand the frame of the embroidery medium, by questioning the values inherent in humanity and labour within the continuing changes effected by modernization. Some of Aoyama’s recent major exhibits include “A Boy Who Sews Forever in Kyoto” (Museum「EKi」KYOTO, 2026), “#WhereDoWeStand?―Art in Our Time” (The National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto, 2025-26) , “MOT’s 30th Anniversary Exhibition Choreographies of the Everyday” (Museum of Contemporary
Art Tokyo, 2025), “Unfolding: Fabric of Our Life” (Center for Heritage Arts & Textile, Hong Kong 2019) etc.
