흙과 함께 걷는 자
점토는 인생의 절반 이상을 함께 해온 반려이다. 가장 큰 이해자이면서 때때로 충돌하고 화해하는 존재이기도 하다. 그 예측할 수없는 변화는 내 자신의 삶과 겹칩니다. 점토와 함께 태어난 작품은 인생의 변화에 따라 모습을 바꾸고 때로는 나가 아니라 점토가 주도권을 쥐기도 한다.
한국 최북단의 시라쿠시마에서 태어나 각지를 거쳐 교토에 도착했다. 다른 환경에 계속 적응하는 과정은 가마 속에서 제작자의 의도를 넘어 나타나는 도자기의 모습과 비슷하다. 제작을 통해 일관되게 찾아온 것은 인간의 본질과 인생 그 자체였다.
내면에서 불타는 감정을 깎아 점토로 옮기는 행위는 창작인 동시에 스스로를 받아들이는 행위이기도 했다. 번뇌를 부정하는 것이 아니라, 그것도 인생의 일부로서 껴안는 것. 부정과 긍정이 동시에 존재하는 것을 제작 속에서 알았다.
최근 작품에 새 모양이 나타나기 시작했다. 이국에서의 외로움과 격절의 경험은 내면을 깊이 파헤치는 계기가 되었다. 새는 경계를 넘어서려는 의지의 상징이다.
헬만 헤세의 '데미안'에 있는 '새는 달걀을 깨고 날아간다'는 말처럼 지켜진 세계를 넘어 새로운 진리로 향하는 여행은 이어진다. 비록 추락의 위험이 있어도, 나는 점토와 함께 사람과 인생을 바라보고 계속하고 싶다.

One Who Walks with Clay
Clay has been my closest companion for more than half of my life. It is at once my greatest understanding partner and a presence with which I sometimes clash, only to reconcile again. Its unpredictability mirrors my own existence. The works born with at times it is not I but the clay that takes the lead.
Born on Baengnyeong Island, the northernmost edge of Korea, I passed through several cities before arriving in Kyoto. Adapting to unfamiliar environments resembles the moment when a form emerges from the kiln beyond the maker's intention. Through making humanity and of life itself.
Transferring burning emotions into clay is both creation and aceptance. Rather than escaping desire and conflict, I have learned to embrace them as part of life. Negation and affirmation coexist with in a single day.
In recent years, birds have begun to appear in my work. Experiences of isolation in a foreign land led me inward. The bird has become a symbol of crossing boundaries.
As in Hermann Hesse's Demian, the bird must break the egg to be born. Even if the risk of falling remains, I continue this journey with clay, seeking truth and the possibility of loving humanity.
