Ryu Ika

Ryu Ika는 1993년 중국·내 몽골 자치구 후후호트에서 태어나 현재는 파리와 도쿄를 거점으로 활동하는 비주얼 아티스트. 사진, 설치, 사운드 등 다양한 미디어를 조합한 실험을 통해 개인과 사회의 관계성을 탐구하고 있다. 또, 몽골과 중국의 뿌리에 더해, 10년 이상에 걸친 일본에서의 생활 경험을 바탕으로 Identity, 변위(이동/이주), 그리고 귀속의 유동성을 테마로 작품을 만들고 있다.
그녀의 작품은 종종 "보는 것 / 볼 수있는 것"의 관계와 다른 사람의 인식이 개인의 자기 인식을 형성하는 방법을 고려합니다. 소재의 실험과 공간 구성을 통해 이미지와 객체의 경계를 다시 묻는 몰입형 설치를 제작하고 있다.
지금까지 우에노의 숲 미술관에서의 VOCA전(2022)을 비롯해 아사마 국제 포토 페스티벌(2023), T3 Photo Festival Tokyo(2021), KYOTOGRAPHIE KG+(2023) 등 국내외에서 작품을 발표.
2019년 '1_W ALL' 사진 부문 그랑프리를 수상해 2021년 하야시 타다히코상 파이널리스트, 또 LOEWE나 KEN ZO 등 패션 브랜드와의 콜라보레이션도 실시하고 있다. 2024년부터 2025년에 걸쳐 파리의 "Cité internationale des arts"에 대한 레지던스를 얻어 현재 파리 국립고등미술학교에 재적 중.

Ika Ryu, born in 1993 in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, China, is a visual artist based in Paris and Tokyo. Working across photography, installation, and sound, her practice explores the relationship between the individual and society. Drawing from her Mongolian and Chinese Japan, she focuses on themes of identity, displacement, and the fluidity of belonging.
Her work often examines the dynamics of seeing and being seen, and how recognition shapes one's sense of self with in collective structures. Through material experimentation and spatial arrangements, she creates immersive installations that challenge the boundaries between image and
Ryu has presentad her work internationally, including at The Ueno Royal Museum for the VOCA Exhibition (2022), as well as at Asama International Photo Festival (2023), T3 Photo Festival Tokyo (2021), and KYOTOGRAPHIE KG+ (2023).
She received the Grand Prize of the 1_W ALL Photography Award in 2019 and was a finalist for the Hayashi Tadahiko Award in 2021. She has also collaborated with brands such as LOEWE and KEN ZO. From 2024 to 2025, she Paris, and she is currently studying at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris.
