Taiga Mori

森大雅

Mori Taiga is the heir to three generations of pottery traditions in Bizen, Japan, blending centuries-old techniques with modern innovation. He studied under renowned Bizen ware ceramist Kimura Gyokushu, and in 2000 inherited his grandfather's climbing kiln, the Furai-gama, which he still uses today.

Since his first solo exhibition in Tokyo in 2001, he has exhibited his work around the world, including in France, the UK, the US, Costa Rica, and Taiwan, and has been active as a teacher, kiln builder, and artist-in-residence. In his Bizen studio, he produces both sculptural pieces and practical vessels, and welcomes students from overseas.

The Mori family (maiden name: Terami) is one of the six officially recognized Bizen ware kilns during the Edo period. Mori Taiga is proud and honored to carry on the lineage of this venerable kiln. Through creative partnerships and international exchange, he is reshaping the future of Bizen ware in a spirit of collaboration and openness. His works are on permanent display at Gallery Kai in Bizen City and at his studio gallery (across from the new Bizen City Museum of Art).
