영상 설치를 주축으로 활동하는 비주얼 아티스트. 이동이나 노동, 사람과 환경 사이에 있는 복잡한 관계성을 주제로 하고, 커뮤니티와의 관계나 사회 상황에 대한 면밀한 리서치를 실시한다. 이러한 조사를 바탕으로 역사와 제도, 시장과 생태가 얽힌 구조적인 힘이 개인의 신체와 공간이라는 구체적인 장소에 어떻게 나타나는지를 탐구하고 있다.

리서치에 근거한 실천의 핵심으로서, 지금까지 복수의 국제적인 아티스트 인 레지던스에 참가. 주요 체류 경력에는 Delfina Foundation(런던, 2024년), SAM Residencies(싱가포르, 2023년), WIELS Residency Programme(브뤼셀, 2022년), ARCUS Project 2019 IBARAKI Artist-in-Residence Program(이바라키) 등이 있다.
최근의 주요 전시회에 《크리테리엄 101 와타나베 타쿠야》(미토 예술관 현대 미술 센터, 이바라키, 2024년), 《As Above, So Below》 TOKAS Creator-in-Residence 성과 발표전(TOKAS 혼고, 도쿄, 2023년).
2025년부터 런던을 거점으로 활동 중.

Takuya Watanabe is a Japanese visual artist whose practice centres on video installation. His work explores themes of migration, labour, and the complex entanglements between people and their environments, grounded in close engagement with communities and in-depth research into social condi structural forces shaped by the intertwining of history, institutions, markets, and ecology crystallise in concrete bodies and specific spaces.

Watanabe's research-driven practice is shaped by his participation in several international residency programs. These include the Delfina Foundation (London, 2024), SAM Residencies (Singapore, 2023), WIELS Residency Programme (Brussels, 202 Artist-in-Residence Program (이바라키, 일본).
Recent exhibitions include CRITERIUM 101: Takuya Watanabe (Contemporary Art Center, Art Tower Mito, Ibaraki, 2024) and As Above, So Below, TOKAS Creator-in-Residence Exhibition (TOKAS Hongo, Tokyo, 2023).
He is currently based in London on a two-year overseas study program for emerging artists (2025–2027), supported by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan.
