[Collaboration Project] Barry McGee creates a large-scale mural in Tennoz! Preview at MEET YOUR ART FESTIVAL 2025

As a collaborative project with the "TENNOZ ART FESTIVAL," a large-scale mural by Barry McGee, a leading street art and internationally influential contemporary artist, will be created in Tennoz and will be exhibited in advance during MYAF2025.

"TENNOZ ART FESTIVAL" is a project run by the Tennoz Canalside Revitalization Association since 2019, which aims to enhance the appeal of the entire town through the installation of large murals in buildings along the canal, large-scale murals in station corridors, and three-dimensional artworks in public open spaces, set on the "art island" of Tennoz Isle.

The production of this large-scale mural by Barry McGee is part of this initiative and has been made possible specially in collaboration with MYAF2025.

The base of the work will be applied to the wall before MYAF2025 begins, and the work will be unveiled during MYAF2025 from Friday, October 10th to Monday, October 13th (national holiday), becoming a symbolic addition to the festival. After MYAF2025 ends, McGee will add touches to the work by hand to complete it, and it will remain as a permanent mural on Tennozu Isle.

This special project will create new public art in Tennozu and serve as a symbolic highlight to immortalize the memory of MYAF2025.

The exterior building film, essential for Barry McGee's mural production, is a highly weather-resistant adhesive sheet for outdoor signs made by Lintec Corporation, a leading adhesive products company that has endorsed this project. This quality will ensure that the artwork will remain in the city for a long time, supporting the foundation that will continue to beautifully decorate the Tennozu landscape.

◆ Barry McGee ◆

Born in San Francisco in 1966

McGee is one of the most internationally recognized and influential contemporary artists from the Bay Area in recent years. Raised in San Francisco, he studied painting and printmaking at the San Francisco Art Institute (Class of 1991). He has exhibited his work around the world, including at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Boston, the Venice Biennale, and the Prada Foundation. He is known as a pioneer in introducing street art and graffiti culture into gallery and museum environments. Drawing on a wide range of influences, including American folk art, Mexican muralism, and surf culture, McGee's work celebrates the diversity of urban life and critiques consumerist culture and a commercially driven society by portraying individuals on the margins of society.

"TENNOZ ART FESTIVAL" is a project that has been running since 2019 on the "island of art" of Tennozu Isle, creating large-scale wall art on buildings along the canal and in station passageways, as well as installing three-dimensional art in public open spaces. In recent years, Tennozu has been attracting attention as an art city, with a concentration of museums and art galleries that have been converted into warehouses, and the aim is to enhance the appeal of Tennozu Isle through art through the synergistic effects of "TENNOZ ART FESTIVAL," which makes use of the waterfront and street spaces in the area.
