In collaboration with ELLE, the festival's media partner, it has been decided that MYAF×ELLE CINEMA NIGHT will be held at Tennozu Canal on the evening of Sunday, October 12th. Now in its second year, the MYAF×ELLE collaboration will have the theme "Divers Narratives - Intersecting Gazes," and will draw attention to diverse and independent perspectives in art and film through three events: a special exhibition at the collaboration booth, a film screening, and a talk show.

Tangerine, an early film by director Sean Baker, who won the Academy Award this year, was shot entirely on an iPhone 5 and will be screened outdoors at Tennozu Canal. The film project, ELLE CINEMA, is fully supervised by ELLE, a women's magazine published in 45 countries and regions around the world.

Sean Baker, director of Anora, won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 2025 and the Palme d'Or at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. With the director's independent perspective gaining attention, this year's MYAF x ELLE CINEMA NIGHT will be screening his early work, Tangerine (2015). Set in West Hollywood, Los Angeles, this masterpiece vividly depicts the love and friendship between transgender women. Despite its low budget, it is a monumental work that depicts a unique and realistic world through a great deal of ingenuity, thorough research, and technical and editing skills utilizing three smartphones.

Following the screening, a special talk session will be held on a special stage within the MYAF2025 venue, featuring guests Megumi, an actor and film producer; Yoko Yamanaka, director of "The Namibian Desert," which won the International Federation of Film Critics' Award at the Cannes Film Festival in 2024; and artist Ellie (Chim↑Pom from Smappa! Group). Hosted by Kanako Sakai, Group Editor-in-Chief of ELLE & Harper's BAZAAR and Editor-in-Chief of ELLE, the talk will explore the future of art and film creation from each of their perspectives, the independence of creativity, and what an artist's perspective brings to the viewer. The talk will also explore why independent perspectives and creative work in art and film are currently attracting attention and why such works resonate with viewers. Each will share their thoughts on the important aspects of creativity that are common to both film and art.
