°pbdb is a creative unit formed by Misaki Umei and Fuki Kitamura.
Formed spontaneously in 2023, the duo began participating in each other's music production and collaborated extensively. These two creative individuals, who freely traverse various genres, handle everything from composition, lyrics, performance, vocals, track making, and mixing, while receiving ideas from each other.
At the heart of their production is a laboratory-like style, where they turn ideas into sound on the spot and develop them through trial and error. They don't define a genre beforehand, but rather bring together the musical backgrounds and sensibilities of both members as they create.
They also self-produce visual and conceptual work beyond music, such as their unit name, work titles, and artwork, which incorporate symmetry and letter shapes.
In December 2024, they released "qpqd," and the track "qd" from the album was used in an Apple advertising creative, and they were selected as the cover artist for Spotify 's official playlist "Electropolis."
Umei Misaki's 1st album "Asleep Above Creatures" and Kitamura Fuki's 1st album "Spira1oop," both released in 2025, were nominated for the "APPLE VINEGAR -Music Award- 2026."
