Choreographer/contemporary dancerShe grew up in a family that moved around a lot from a young age. She moved to three elementary schools and developed various games to make friends quickly. The games she played at that time are the roots of her dance. She has expanded her field of activities by collaborating with artists in various fields such as theater, music, art, and manga. She has performed her works in over 30 cities in 10 countries. Her collaborative work with contemporary artist Tabaimo, "Fruit from Rust," toured four cities across the United States in 2020. In recent years, she has been working on Beethoven's music as a challenge to her body to compete with the music. In
"Dancing All Movements of Beethoven's Symphony No.5' Unmei'," she asked artists with completely different backgrounds to choreograph each movement:
MIKIKO(director and choreographer) for the
firstmovement,
Mirai Moriyama (actor and dancer) for the
second movement,
Naoki Ishikawa (photographer) for the third movement, and Akira Kasai (dancer and choreographer) for thefourth movement, and she danced them solo. Also, in this year which marks the 200th anniversary of the premiere of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9, she will be performing with the Kanagawa Philharmonic Orchestra in a concert entitled "Dance! Symphony No. 9". Nowadays, I cannot die without dancing to all of Beethoven's symphonies. She is the vocalist of the music band "locolocode" (the album is available on Apple Music). With the motto of 100 people, 100 styles, she gathers people of all ages all over the country to hold workshops and create works. Her work is characterized by the unpredictable and fantastical world that comes from the unique "space" that draws everyone in at once. She won the 8th Japan Dance Forum Award in 2014. She was a senior fellow at the Saison Foundation from 2015 to 2017. She is a registered artist in the Regional Creation Public Hall Contemporary Dance Revitalization Project Support Program.http://maki-m.net/About this work "Tokyo Koshitsu"When
she was working as an office lady
at an insurance company, she would dance in the toilet or elevator to release tension between her duties. She was unaware that she was being filmed on security cameras... This work was born from that experience. Itwas presented in 2005 and won an award at the Tokyo Competition #2.Since then,it has been performed at the Fullmoon Dance Festival in Finland in 2007, Japan Society (NY) in 2011, and the Japan Cultural Institute in Paris in 2017.
