Tanaka Arashi (born in Fukuoka in 2000) is a mixed-media artist based in Japan. He graduated from Tama Art University's Department of Environmental Design (majoring in Architecture) in 2022 and completed his Master's degree with Distinction at the University of the Arts London (Fine Art) in 2024. Using the crystallization of natural phenomena as a medium, he creates works that explore themes of life and death and time. In Tanaka's works, he uses recorded vibrations such as heartbeats and wind and rain as catalysts to promote crystallization, capturing, sealing, and preserving information such as life and memory that would normally fade over time. Through crystals, he visualizes the transience of life and the flow of time, inviting viewers to contemplate the past, present, and future. He has participated in numerous exhibitions both in Japan and abroad, including at the Royal Academy of Arts in London and BBA Gallery in Berlin, and has been featured in international art media such as Artsy magazine and FOA. He has also participated in a residency at Pearl Lam in Shanghai, and his activities continue to expand overseas. He became the first Japanese to receive the British Institution Fund Award at the RA Summer Exhibition 2024, the world's oldest open exhibition held at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. He also won the Eric Zhu Award, Kentaro Notomi Award, and Hiroaki Shono Award at the Different Kyomachibori Art Fair 2024 in Osaka.
