A visual artist whose work primarily revolves around video installations. Their themes include movement, work, and the complex relationships between people and their environment. They conduct thorough research into community engagement and social conditions. Based on this research, they explore how the structural forces of intertwined history, institutions, markets, and ecosystems manifest themselves in concrete spaces such as the individual body and physical environment.
As a core part of her research-based practice, she has participated in several international artist-in-residence programs. Her major residencies include the Delfina Foundation (London, 2024), SAM Residencies (Singapore, 2023), WIELS Residency Programme (Brussels, 2022), and ARCUS Project 2019 IBARAKI Artist-in-Residence Program (Ibaraki).
Recent major exhibitions include "Criterion 101: Takuya Watanabe" (Mito Art Center, Ibaraki, 2024) and "As Above, So Below" (TOKAS Creator-in-Residence Exhibition, TOKAS Hongo, Tokyo, 2023).
Selected for the Agency for Cultural Affairs' Overseas Training Program for Emerging Artists in 2025, she has been based in London since 2025.

Takuya Watanabe is a Japanese visual artist whose practice centers on video installation. His work explores themes of migration, labor, and the complex entanglements between people and their environments, grounded in close engagement with communities and in-depth research into social conditions. Based on this research, he examines how structural forces shaped by the intertwining of history, institutions, markets, and ecology crystallise in concrete bodies and specific spaces.
Watanabe's research-driven practice is shaped by his participation in several international residency programs. These include the Delfina Foundation (London, 2024), SAM Residencies (Singapore, 2023), WIELS Residency Programme (Brussels, 2022), and ARCUS Project 2019 IBARAKI Artist-in-Residence Program (Ibaraki, Japan).
Recent exhibitions include CRITERIUM 101: Takuya Watanabe (Contemporary Art Center, Art Tower Mito, Ibaraki, 2024) and As Above, So Below, TOKAS Creator-in-Residence Exhibition (TOKAS Hongo, Tokyo, 2023).
He is currently based in London on a two-year overseas study program for emerging artists (2025–2027), supported by the Agency for Cultural Affairs of Japan.
