大森準平

Born in Aichi Prefecture in 1979. While studying ceramics at the Department of Sculpture, Faculty of Arts, Kyoto Seika University, he was deeply impacted by the Jomon period flame-style pottery. Since then, he has made "Jomon" the foundation of his creative work and continues to produce art from his studio in Ohara, Kyoto.
Reinterpreting the organic curves, spirals, and flame-like forms found in ancient Japanese pottery using vibrant glazes and gold and silver accents, the artist develops a unique ceramic expression that traverses between antiquity and the present. In 2010, she won first place in the public vote at the Montblanc Young Artist Patronage, and in 2012, she participated in an artist-in-residence program in MARK, where her work was acquired by the Denmark Keramik Museum. In the same year, she was featured as one of Japan's representative artists at ASIA WEEK NEW YORK, attracting international attention. In 2019, she also exhibited at Art Basel (Switzerland).
Following a serious illness in 2016, she began creating a series of works themed around "destruction and reconstruction." In recent years, she has been working on the "Body and Memory" series, which was born from the loss of her grandmother, expressing life, memory, and the cycle of time through clay. She also presents paintings that emerge from the process of creating ceramics, expanding her range of expression by traversing between three-dimensional and two-dimensional art.
Through the fundamental act of shaping clay, we explore the cycle of human memory and life that connects the Jomon period to the present day.
