Born in Mie Prefecture in 1997. A contemporary artist currently based in Tokyo.
Born in a Tendai Buddhist temple, he was ordained in 2009 and completed the four-stage training at Tendai Shinseishu Saikyoji Temple in 2019. After enrolling in the Design Department of Tokyo University of the Arts in 2016, he will study at the Graduate School of Fine Arts, majoring in Design, from 2020, graduating in 2024.
Hasegawa's works, which have a bird's-eye view of emotions, thoughts, the body, and the existence of life, offer a glimpse of his unique approach, derived from the Buddhist philosophy that forms the basis of his work, and raise questions about the view of life and death and the very existence of human beings. Hasegawa has been strongly attracted to "light" both visually and philosophically since childhood, and he incorporates this original experience into his works.
He was selected as a member of the 5th batch of the Kuma Foundation and exhibited at "KUMA EXHIBITION 2022", and held his first solo exhibition "Yomogi to Comp" (√K Contemporary, Tokyo) in the same year. Since then, he has exhibited at numerous exhibitions, including "Meet Your Art Festival 2023 "Time to Change", "VOCA Exhibition 2025" (Ueno Royal Museum), the exhibition "THE ART OF COLOUR" by high jewelry brand Chaumet (Tokyo, 2025), and the group exhibition "Regeneration and the Future" curated by Miwa Kutsuna (ASTER Curator Museum, Kanazawa, 2025). In 2024, he held a large-scale solo exhibition "Akihiro Hasegawa Exhibition" at √K Contemporary (Tokyo), and in the same year, he held a solo exhibition "Muryokou" at N&A Art SITE (Tokyo) as the 6th installment of Nanjo Selection. He has attracted a lot of attention as one of the promising young artists and is expanding the scope of his activities.
