Shu Ogasawara

Born in 1985 in Hyogo Amagasaki city.
In 2014, he established the collaborative studio Yamanaka suplex in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture.
He creates stone sculptures as an eclectic mix between the two-dimensional expressions of manga and anime and three-dimensional sculptures, overlapping the strong bodies of the protagonists of shonen manga that he grew up with and the stone sculptures of Greek sculptors and Michelangelo, which were created in pursuit of the ideal body. In recent years, he has also developed into relief works in which he records in stone sculpture what he perceives as monumental events in the casual daily lives of familiar figures.
One such work is the "1985 or thereabouts" series, which is based on the motif of a friend of the artist, who was born in 1985, the same year as Ogasawara.
