Even in close relationships, conflicts can occur and can be painful at times. These are like inflammations of friction caused by differences in perceptions and values, and perhaps they represent the limits of understanding others through assumptions.
We believe that going beyond a superficial, overall understanding, but paying close attention to the details and striving to get to know the other person is the way to bridge the gap.
In my recent work "Calm Tone," I felt that the act of drawing was similar to the mental activity I felt when soothing a friend. By repeatedly layering lines as if to confirm the light and shadow, I was able to re-interpret the subject as a real entity. This is nothing less than an act of connecting opposing elements and searching for a quiet balance, not a battle of forces. I would like to begin my reflections on this from the motifs of the moon and landscapes.
