

Born in Tokyo in 1974, this artist creates a unique worldview that intertwines reality and fantasy, present and past, based on the theme of "discomfort." Combining static figures and motifs reminiscent of snapshots with vibrant, artificial colors, they express the mysterious sensations lurking in everyday life. After studying printmaking, primarily silkscreen, in San Francisco, they expanded their activities to painting in New York, returning to Japan in 2005. Since then, they have held solo and group exhibitions both domestically and internationally, and have worked extensively in illustration, stencils, and graphic design, providing works for brands such as Paul Smith and BEAMS. They held a solo exhibition "STRANGE SPOTS" at ALL TARGET in 2021 and a solo exhibition "THE WORLD WITHIN" at Maki Gallery in 2024. In addition to paintings and prints, they develop their unique world starting from "discomfort" through diverse forms of expression such as three-dimensional works and installations.

Combining static figures and motifs reminiscent of snapshots with vivid, artificial colors, he evokes a mysterious sense of unease hidden with in everyday life. After studying screen printing and printmaking in San Francisco, he moved to New York, where he shifted his focus to pain ting, before returning to Japan in 2005. Since then, he has mainly exhibited in Japan and abroad, while also working across illustration, stenciling, and graphic design, artwork for brands including Paul Smith and BEAMS. In 2021, he held the solo exhibition “STRANGE SPOTS” at G ALL ERY TARGET in Tokyo. In 2024, he presented the solo exhibition “THE WORLD WITHIN” at Maki Gallery. Through pain ting, printmaking, sculpture, and installation, Takagi continues to develop his distinctive world centered on a sense of “DISC OM FOR T.”
