絵画を中心に、身のまわりの物や植物、民俗文化、物質文化などを手がかりに、人と物との関係、そしてそこに蓄積される感覚、記憶、時間について制作している。近年は人類学的な視点も取り入れながら、異なる地域や文化の中で植物や器物がどのように用いられ、意味を与えられてきたのかをリサーチし、それらを自身の感覚や経験と重ね合わせながら絵画へと再構成している。色彩や形を通して、個人的な記憶と文化的な記憶、日常と歴史のあいだに生まれる関係を探っている。
2019年シェル美術賞入選、2021年FACE展グランプリ受賞、2022年Idemitsu Art Award学生特別賞受賞。

Jia Wei is a visual artist working primarily in painting. Her practice draws on everyday objects, plants, folk traditions, and material culture to explore relationships between people and things, particularly the sensations, memories, and traces of time that accumulate around them.
Recent works incorporate anthropological perspectives and research into the ways plants and objects are used, exchanged, and given meaning across different cultures and regions. These materials are reinterpreted through sensory experience and translated into paintings through color and form, connecting personal memory with cultural memory, and everyday life with history.
Selected for the Shell Art Award in 2019, Jia Wei received the Grand Prix at FACE in 2021 and the Student Special Prize at the Idemitsu Art Award in 2022.
