Born in Okayama Prefecture in 1975. He studied Bizen ware under his father, Tomio Ota, a Bizen ware artist and traditional craftsman. He is particular about the clay he uses, not clay dug by machine, but clay that he digs up himself and lets mature. By mixing different types of clay and using six different kilns, he creates rich expressions in each and every piece.
They are also experimenting with expressions not found in traditional Bizen ware, such as "Sapphire Blue," which produces a deep blue without using glaze. They are pursuing the possibilities of clay and fire to create their own unique Bizen ware.
