Choi Hyunsun is a sculptor who works figuratively in pursuit of conception. This work focuses on the representational aspects of Vincent van Gogh's self-portrait image, and examines the meaning contained in the repetition in the process of representation (reproduction) in the relationship between subject and other. It aims to analyze and reinterpret it in the context of repetition by juxtaposing it with emboss and negative angle, which are sculptural relief techniques in contemporary art. Van Gogh's self-portrait, one of Choi Hyunsun's many portrait series, is repeatedly multiplied and presented in various colors. The plain Korean painting technique of monochrome black and white selected for this exhibition contains the artist's unique will to induce the sameness and difference between the subject and the image.
