  • ART FAIR - CROSSOVER
Rena Mikame was born in Aichi 1992. Currently, he is mainly based in Tokyo, but also based in the Kanto and Chubu regions in Japan. He is working on pictorial expression that pursues the relationship between perception and image. Examining the formation of flat, neutral images that are not influenced by individual experiences or memories, and the conditions under which they are deeply sensitive, he depicts motifs of ordinary scenes of everyday life that everyone sees, such as plants, glasses of water, and sunlight shining through trees. In addition to developing a series on various elements such as lines, color, light, and temperature, he has recently created a group of works that refer to Bergson's "Matter and Memory." While taking on a high level of abstraction, Mikame's works have characteristics that evoke tactile sensations such as humidity, temperature, and texture, giving them a sense of warmth and familiarity. Recent solo exhibitions include "Catching the Light" (Yutaka Kikutake Gallery, Tokyo, 2022), "Seeing the Line" (Yutaka Kikutake Gallery, 2021), "Seeing Colors" (Yutaka Kikutake Galler, 2020), "project N 69 Rena Mikame" (Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery, Tokyo, 2017), and Major group exhibitions include "VOCA Exhibition 2020: Perspectives on Contemporary Art: Artists on New Planes" (Ueno Royal Museum, Tokyo, 2020). Major awards include the 2021 Toyota Cultural Promotion Foundation Toyota Cultural Newcomer Award, the 2019 Arts Challenge 2019, and the 2012 Tokyo Wonder Wall Award at the Tokyo Wonder Wall Open Call 2012.

The main collections are the Aichi Museum of Art and Aichi Toyota City.
