Born in Kyoto Prefecture in 1982. He gives lacquer, which is tree sap, a living form with its own expression, projects the sense of touch and physicality onto the film that the lacquer creates, and explores new sensory experiences for lacquer.
Since 2007, he has exhibited his works in solo exhibitions and has participated in group exhibitions both in Japan and abroad, including "Leaping Makers" (Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art, 2023), "Urushi Wind and Waves - Lacquer Expressions Running Through the Present" (Wajima Urushi Art Museum, Ishikawa Prefecture, 2023), "The 4th Kanazawa International Craft Triennale: Crafts that Transcend Borders" (21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, 2019), and "Hard Bodies" (Minneapolis Institute of Art, USA, 2017). In 2024, he received the Encouragement Award at the 42nd Kyoto Prefecture Cultural Award. In 2019, he won the Grand Prize at the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize 2019 and the Kyoto City Art Newcomer Award. His works are included in the collections of the Minneapolis Institute of Art (USA), the Victoria and Albert Museum (UK), the British Museum (UK), and the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art, among others.

Born in Kyoto in 1982, he creates his own work using urushi lacquer, which is a refined sap extracted from trees. In pursuit of a new perceptual experience through urushi, he explores forms that bring out the unique texture of lacquer and reflecting tactile quality and corporeality in the lacquer membrane.
He has contributed to exhibitions including Visionaries: Making Another Perspective, the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum of Art (2003); Shippudoto, Wajima Museum of Urushi Art, Ishikawa (2023); the 4th Triennale of KOGEl in Kanazawa KOGEl as Contemporary Craft: Transcending Boundaries, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa (2019) and Hard Bodies, the Minneapolis Institute of Art (2017). He was awarded the Incentive Prize, The 42nd Kyoto Prefectural Culture Prize in 2024, the grand prize at Loewe Foundation Craft Prize and the Best Young Artist Award from the City of Kyoto in 2019. His works are in the collection of the British Museum, Victoria & Albert Museum in London and the Kyoto City KYOCERA Museum, and more.
