Born in Fukuoka in 1981. He studied sculptural expression at Kyushu Sangyo University and completed graduate school at Tokyo University of the Arts. During his studies, he worked on research on sculpture mainly using stone as a material, and composed motifs that evoked the influence of academic forms and music, and created works with a sense of tension that shook the way sculpture should be in the modern world. Recognizing the "impulse" that arises from the inside as an important element, his three-dimensional works are characterized by the use of artificial materials such as scrap wood and concrete, while maintaining the strength of a "thing" that is never frivolous. With a bricolage style that he arrived at during his two-and-a-half-year stay in New York from 2012, he confronts materials while repeating "destruction and restoration" and explores the beauty of form contained in the passage of time. In November 2023, the Avex Creator Agency (ACA) opened in Nishi-Azabu, Tokyo, and presented his first solo exhibition [VERSE] at W ALL_alternative.
Born in Fukuoka in 1981. Shu Ohno studied sculpture at Kyushu Sangyo University and completed his graduate studies at Tokyo University of the Arts. While in school, he practiced sculpture using mainly stone as material. In doing so, he has taken up motifs that are both academic in nature and influenced by music, creating works defined by a sense of tension that shakes up the contemporary state of sculpture. He considers the "impulse" that wells up from with in to be an important element, using artificial materials such as scrap wood and concrete while preserving the work’s strength as a solid "thing". Continuing with the bricolage style he arrived at after residing in New York for two and a half years, Ohno approaches materials in a repeated process of destruction and reconstruction, exploring the sculptural beauty embedded in the passage of time. He held the solo exhibition "VERSE" as the first exhibition at W ALL_alternative, a venue opened in November 2023 by ACA (avex creator agency) in Nishiazabu, Tokyo.
