HIBIS-CUS is a new type of cultural community space that opened in April 2024 in Cheongju, Korea's educational and cultural city. It consists of a 200-pyeong exhibition room and community room, an art residency space where artists and general audiences can stay and enjoy the aroma of art, and a 450-pyeong outdoor exhibition space.
Hibiscus is a combination of Hibiscus, which means "the Egyptian god of beauty," and Isco, which means "to resemble," and means "a flower dedicated to the beautiful god." It also contains the fundamental question of art, with the Latin words HIBIS (Here) and CUS (Because).
HIBIS-CUS promotes various exhibition projects and overseas residency exchange programs, and is developing into a cultural community space where people from various fields can freely gather and exchange ideas through contemporary art.
